Once again, celebrity radio hosts and Radio One’s national network of praise stations,  lent their voices on March 17 to help in the fight against childhood cancer, sickle cell disease and other life-threatening diseases. The ninth annual Radio Cares for St. Jude Kids® national radio broadcast event raised more than $1.4 million for the kids of St. Jude.  Radio One primarily targets urban listeners and is the top supporter of the annual radio fundraising event.  A diversified media company with 56 broadcast stations in 16 markets, Radio One holds a syndication business (Reach Media), an online platform (Interactive One), a cable network (TV One) and creative brand content agency (One Solution). This year’s event welcomed support from groups and celebrity music artists, including: Kirk Franklin, Jekalyn Carr, Richard Smallwood, Ricky Dillard, Anthony Brown, Vashawn Mitchell, JJ Hairston, Maurette Brown Clark and so many others – who all volunteered their time at Radio One affiliate stations across the country answering phones from callers pledging to become St. Jude Partners in Hope.


St. Jude supporters shine at Dove Awards

Congratulations to Erica and all our St. Jude friends for winning Dove Awards – Lecrae, Lauren Daigle, Tasha Cobbs, Israel Houghton, Michael W. Smith, Brian Courtney Wilson, Andy Mineo and Smokie Norful.

 MegaFest honors Radio Cares partners

MegaFest, the nation's largest inspirational family festival, honored Dr. Jacquie Hood Martin and Sherri E. Goodall for their work with St. Jude. In addition to recognizing these women, MegaFest donated $50,000 to St. Jude during a check presentation at the Sunday of Hope service on Sunday, August 23.

Dr. Jacquie Hood Martin, owner of personal and professional coaching firm J. Hood & Associates, has volunteered at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, participated in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, and led panels for the St. Jude Celebration of Hope seminar. Martin also currently serves as vice chair of the St. Jude Sunday of Hope Advisory Committee, the hospital's faith-based initiative, through which she actively works with churches to raise funds and awareness for St. Jude through the Sunday of Hope program.

Sherri E. Goodall, community outreach manager for apparel retailer DTLR, Inc., currently serves on the advisory board for the St. Jude Celebration. Sherri has been instrumental in the partnership between St. Jude and DTLR. In 2012, she helped to launch a fundraiser in all DTLR stores, raising more than $100,000 in three years during an annual one-month collection.

Latice Crawford entertains the kids by on World Sickle Cell Day

In recognition of World Sickle Cell Day, urban contemporary gospel artist Latice Crawford visited St. Jude and performed songs for St. Jude patients and families.  Latice, a finalist of BET’s “Sunday Best,” is a carrier of the sickle cell trait.  Because of her personal experience with the disease and the impact it has made on her family, Latice has taken an interest in St. Jude and its sickle cell research.  During her visit, Latice met with the St. Jude Hematology case manager, Sheila Anderson, to learn more about St. Jude’s battle against sickle cell disease.

In June, gospel artist Janice Gaines stopped by for a visit to learn about the great work done at St. Jude and how she can do her part to raise awareness and funds for the hospital.  After her visit, she thanked her hosts with a Facebook post, “Thanks to Carmen Triplett-Watson and the entire staff at ‪#‎StJude‬‬ for opening your doors to me! Praying that God continues to bless this work!”

Radio Cares for St. Jude Kids event raises more than $1.4 million

They partnered with other inspirational music stations across the country to raise more than $1.4 million for kids at St. Jude during the eighth annual Radio Cares for St. Jude Kids® national radio broadcast event designed to increase the community’s awareness and support of St. Jude.  

Radio One’s national network of praise stations, along with celebrity radio hosts Yolanda Adams, Tom Joyner, Willie Moore, Jr. and Lonnie Hunter, all lent their voices to help the fight against sickle cell disease, childhood cancer and other life–threatening diseases.  “Radio One is a proud partner of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and we are particularly proud of our highly engaged and loyal listeners for responding to our call and exceeding our financial goal this year. This national radio event proves the continued power of radio to emotionally connect with listeners and move them to action. In this case, the action is literally life–saving for thousands of children,” said Chris Wegmann, president of the Radio Division, Radio One, Inc.


“Mann & Wife” support St. Jude

eOne St Jude Star The Manns2 2While on the set of their new show Mann & Wife, Radio Cares partners David and Tamela Mann took the time to record a St. Jude PSAMann & Wife is a new original Bounce TV series starring David and Tamela Mann as newlyweds Daniel and Toni Mann.  

David and Tamela Mann were recently recognized as St. Jude Stars at The Stellar Gospel Music Awards in Las Vegas for their incredible passion for the St. Jude mission.  They have shown their support to St. Jude in many ways.  David and Tamela Mann are stars in their own right but are also bright and shining stars for the children of St. Jude.
