St. Jude patient enjoys serenade acapella from Grupo El Duelo
Longtime supporters of our lifesaving mission, Grupo El Duelo, paid a visit to the hospital recently to enjoy a fun afternoon with St. Jude patient, Dionisio. In June 2012, little Dionisio was found to suffer from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer. He was quickly referred to St. Jude for his treatment and care undergoing three years of chemotherapy to help save his life. “I love St. Jude,” said his mother Jenny. “Words can’t describe how wonderful it is here. St. Jude gave me hope.” This five year old boy has courageously defeated cancer thanks to the generous donors and supporters like Grupo El Duelo. “Dionisio was looking forward to concluding his treatment so that he could go on four-wheeling adventures with his dad,” shared his mom with the band members.

St. Jude kids meet Chilean television host
The kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital were excited to meet and greet Latin America’s favorite TV personality, Don Mario Kreutzberger, better known as Don Francisco. The host of Univision’s most popular and longest running TV show, Sábado Gigante, enjoyed of a fun afternoon with the kids, and had the opportunity to witness firsthand our lifesaving mission. During an interview, Don Francisco expressed his admiration to the founder of St. Jude, “Danny Thomas was a visionary. He was one of the first artists to use the media to produce solidarity. Then, Jerry Lewis did the same thing, (as well as other artists), and I learned from many of them and followed their example.” Without a doubt, Don Francisco has been an inspiration and a leader within the U.S. Hispanic community, and his visit helped bring smiles and a special moment to the families of St. Jude.

Noel Torres makes first visit to St. Jude
St. Jude patient, Ashley, is a smiling, energetic little girl who enjoys life to the fullest. Regional Mexican artist and songwriter, Noel Torres, got the opportunity to enjoy the outgoing toddler and her unique charm during a recent visit to the hospital. St. Jude patient mom, Patricia, told guests how their journey battling cancer began at age 2, when Ashley’s blood work revealed a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Luckily, Ashley's family found comfort in the support provided by St. Jude. Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from everyday people, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most — saving kids regardless of their financial situation. "We’re so thankful for St. Jude," said Patricia. Ashley is responding well to treatment, and her cancer is in remission.

Thanaydi shared what it means to her and her family that they will never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – thanks to the generous contributions of supporters. “It’s crazy that we won’t have to pay anything for all they’re doing,” said Thanaydi. “It’s really helpful.” Thanaydi played soccer prior to her diagnosis, and she loves to read and attend musical concerts. After completing treatment, she plans to return to college to finish her degree in International Business.
